Employment Columns - Author, Author Jobs in the media
MS VANITA KOHLI-KHANDEKAR Ms Vanita Kohli-Khandekar, author of The Indian Media Business, from Response(www.indiasage.com), spoke to Business Line on career opportunities in the media. What are the career options that the media business offers to the following categories of people: Those who complete journalism courses: As journalists in television and print media, or as writers in research and consulting firms. Graduates of visual communication: Visualisers in magazines, newspapers, Web sites, or even with research and consulting firms which come out with lots of reports. Engineers and accountants who would like to switch to media: Depends on what they want to do. I know of several engineers who have become writers, others have got into ad sales and marketing, still others into production. How good or bad is the language of the Indian media? It is reasonably all right. In print the language varies depending on the newspaper's philosophy. In television, the script could work wonders like it has done for Aaj Tak. At times, it could be completely off like in several local channels.
