People make the difference

MS VEERLE BEHETS

Ms Veerle Behets, Managing Director, LeasePlan India Ltd, has been responsible for commencing and leading the company's India operations since April 1999. Ms Behets is a graduate of Roman Philology from Catholic University, Leuven. She received her Master's degree in Marketing Management from the University of Ghent. Here's her take on four questions from Business Line:

Two things that my education/training taught me.

To be successful in studies/work, besides having the basic intelligence, you need to plan and practise discipline.

Whatever you have learnt, whatever diploma you have earned, they don't make a difference unless you use your common sense.

Two things I learnt from my work/real life.

Most people prefer to go by rules and processes instead of using common sense.

People make the difference.

One quality I look for the most in a new recruit.

The eagerness to learn.

A book that I read recently.

FISH! Omnibus, by Stephen C. Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen
