People Columns - Jump The Odds Triumphant at 44
Because of my age nobody was willing to take me as a CA articled clerk. So I joined as an audit clerk with late S. R. Gauba at Ludhiana. (That meant six years training in those days.) He asked me whether I could afford to maintain myself and my family, consisting of my wife, children and four other dependants. I took up the challenge and passed the CA Intermediate exam all the seven papers in one sitting (a necessity in those days). Thereafter I cleared CA Final Group II in May and Group I in November 1978, scoring more that 60 per cent marks.
All these years I gave tuitions and did part-time accountancy work to keep my household running. Before I could qualify, my two elder children were also pursuing their professional courses. I passed CA at the age of 44 uninterrupted. Mohinder Pal Bansal, Bathinda
