Eco Rally, aha!

Rina Chandran

Club Mahindra, the flagship brand of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd., and part of the Rs 5,500-crore Mahindra Group, held an Eco Rally in Goa recently to demonstrate its commitment to conservation. Held in association with Bharat Petroleum, the rally tested the driver's skill and the car's fuel-efficiency. Fifty-eight teams participated in the 200-km rally, which was flagged off from the Club Mahindra resort at Varca, Goa.

The rally was classified into two main categories: petrol and diesel; there were further classifications based on engine cubic capacities. Drivers had to maintain an average speed of 35 km/hr, and consume the least fuel to win. Valinton Fernandes and brothers Ivan and Yuri Egipsy in a Maruti Zen diesel car won the best overall prize.

"Club Mahindra hopes to educate and encourage all car drivers and manufacturers to stay focussed on the need to build better cars, reduce motoring costs and minimise the emission of toxic wastes into the environment," said a company spokesperson.
