Rural Development Columns - Life watch Dreaming change Preeti Mehra
The theory i-management guru, Arindam Chaudhuri, has another theory up his sleeve, or more precisely, a dream he would like to realise. "When the government fails ... we begin," is his slogan. And towards this end he has kicked off the Great Indian Dream Foundation (GIDF) as a memorial to his younger brother, Aurobindo Chaudhuri. To start with GIDF is going to adopt 10 villages around Uttar Pradesh and attempt to change their entire face in terms of health, education and prosperity in a matter of two years. "When you come to visit these villages in January 2005, you should say that's how every village in India should be," says Chaudhuri. Though an NGO, he plans to run GIDF like any corporate body, with proper management, business strategy and HR systems in place. And how will the GIDF be funded? Chaudhuri is putting into the project all proceeds from his best-selling book, `Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch' and from the next in the publishing venture in the pipeline. His new book, `The Great Indian Dream,' which will hit the stands in January next year, will detail the theories he plans to put into practice. A worthwhile dream, no doubt.
