So, you thought only the young and the beautiful can freak out? The Rotary Club of Pune recently held a unique evening out for residents of the Matoshri Old People's Home and, believe it or not, the old people had the time of their lives. The evening began with Marathi artistes Chandrakant Gokhale and Chittaranjan Kolhatkar performing for them. The Anand Mela, as the evening was called, proved to be just that a riot of laughter and happiness with a mimicry session, an orchestra with the latest hits and some golden oldies and a katha kathan a musicale. The Antakshari programme proved to be a great hit. What was wonderful about the whole show was that everything about the day from the programmes staged to the orchestra and right down to the menu was based on requests from the senior citizens. Which was why, at the end of the day, they enthusiastically tucked into a meal of pani puri, pulav and gulab jamun, instead of the bland diet that most of us presume old people like! ``The whole idea was to give those folks a real good time which would rejuvenate them and we succeeded because ever since we announced the programme, there was high excitement and enthusiasm at the home,'' says Srinivas Kendale, President of the Rotary Club of Pune East.
