IT for kids

Anjali Prayag

Fifty schools in India will soon integrate computer science with the rest of the curriculum and helping them with this is IT Kids, a computer education company.

Called the `School of Tomorrow' programme, it will provide class appropriate content and application-led modules that are project-oriented. Says Suresh Kumar, Director, IT Kids, "The curriculum developed by IT Kids is class-appropriate and focuses highly on value-based education and has also been reasonably priced."

On the technology side, the programme deals with subjects such as operating environment, word processing, graphics, spread sheets, databases, multimedia and animation, and programming languages. The content increases with each class level and is integrated with the school syllabi. "It is also demystified and made more children friendly," says V. Narayanan, Director, IT Kids.

On the academic side, subjects covered include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Social Sciences and languages. At each class-level, the students will be trained to integrate computer skills learnt with lessons in other subjects through sample exercises. The programme was compiled after months of research by a team of educationists, child psychologists and computer professionals.
