A higher level of comfort and access to account information 24/7 have attracted investors to the online platform for trading and investment. New generation investors appear to favour the online mode as it gives them complete control over transactions. Below are responses from our readers to the question: ``Which mode of investing do you prefer - online/offline?''

"I trade online. The online account helps me make a habit of keeping stop-loss. Though I don't get tips from other traders as do some of my friends who trade offline, I am happy because it's a one-stop shop for all investment needs. I invest in IPOs also online."

Sarang Chitale, Stock Trader, Nagpur

"I hold an online account. Ease of use and seamless transactions led me to opt for online over offline. Instant order execution is more important to me rather than the benefit of reduced brokerage."

Farzan Madon, Equity analyst, Mumbai

"I use the online mode for trading as it makes me feel more in control when I place a trade. Seeing prices tick by assists me in intraday trading as well as near-term trades. Again, online/ offline trading is very person-driven. Since I work with the markets, I would prefer online. But, again a person who is not necessarily familiar with market movements should use the offline mode with the help of an advisor/dealer or a quasi online mode which most brokers offer (online trading assisted with offline support in terms of ideas)."

Karan Chimandas, Financial Planner, Mumbai

"Online trading is for seasoned traders with reasonably good exposure. The benefits are flexibility of time and access to the Internet even whilst on travel. For amateurs, offline trading is a better option as mistakes are reduced. Moreover, it gives them time to consult professionals in the field. Hasty online decision made by amateurs can prove to be costly!" Ashok Jayaram, Chartered Accountant, Bangalore "Online mode is more convenient and saves time. Since everything is computerised it is easy to manage accounts and transactions online. Investing in IPOs online is less complicated than offline."

Dr C. Gnanapragasam, Professor, Madurai
