Price hikes galore
Citing higher costs, Hyundai has raised the prices of the Santro. The compact car would be costlier by Rs 7,000-12,000. The December price hike is its second in 2005. The upper-end automatic version will cost Rs 4.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the XO, XL and XK variants will be available at Rs 3.89 lakh, Rs 3.63 lakh and Rs 3.4 lakh respectively.
General Motors has raised the prices on all models of its multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera by Rs 4,800-9,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The price of the base variants, targeted primarily at the taxi and BPO segments, has been raised by about Rs 5,000, while the Tavera Elite will be costlier by about Rs 9,000.
Mahindra & Mahindra is to raise prices of Scorpio effective from January 1; the price hike is expected be in the range of about Rs 5,000 - 6,000.
Close on the M&M's heels is Toyota which plans to raise prices of Corolla and Innova.
Ford would also be joining the bandwagon as it has announced its intention to hike prices by Rs10,000-18,750 for its models.
