UTI Petro Fund: Buy

S. Vaidya Nathan

INVESTMENTS can be made in the UTI Petro Fund. It offers a window to the oil, gas and petrochem sectors. The NAV is Rs 24.9. The fund managed by UTI Mutual has a good track record over the past three-and-half years. Its performance has been helped by the emergence of fancy for stocks from this sector, including ONGC and Indian Oil, over the past 18 months and good stock selection.

Oil, gas and petrochem companies are likely to turn in a strong performance, given the trends in crude prices and likely improvement in refining margins. The disinvestment theme, which will get momentum once the elections are out of way in a few months from now; the imminent 10 per cent offer for sale in ONGC and GAIL; upside to the Reliance stock from fundamentals; and a possible IPO by Reliance Infocomm would be key drivers.
