Centre cuts revenue expenditure

The Centre has curtailed its expenditure on the revenue account in the financial year 2000-01.

The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) said in its report that, on actual basis, the total expenditure rose 7.2 per cent in 2000-01, whereas according to the revised estimate, it was expected to grow by 12.6 per cent. The overall expenditure during the last financial year was lower than the revised expenditure by five per cent.
