Inflation up to 6.06 per cent

The annual rate of inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), touched 6.06 per cent for the week-ended September 23, 2000, as against 5.56 per cent in the preceding week.

The rise has been driven by the uptrend in prices of primary articles and manufactured goods. The WPI for the corresponding period of last year was 3.2 per cent.

The inflation rate, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for industrial workers declined to 4.95 per cent for July 2000 from 5.24 per cent in June.

It was 3.1 per cent in July 1999.
