Paromita Pain Are you finding yourself at a loss for words? Then, it’s time to fight the Limited Vocabulary syndrome. The problem can be chronic but if you have a mobile phone then issues might be faster addressed than you think. Enrich Your English ( http://www.enrichyourenglish.com/) is an application designed to make learning English more accessible. Recently developed by the Chennai-based Avon Mobility Solutions, this is an English Language vocabulary-building programme that works on the mobile phone, making use of the instrument’s multimedia features. The user is taught a new word or an idiom every day, along with its meaning, correct pronunciation, and how it can be used in day-to-day life and business situations. The word/idiom, its meaning and usage is explained with the use of graphics, animation, and high-quality audio. Realistic situations are used to illustrate the usage. Each word or idiom is delivered to the user’s mobile phone as a 3GPP format card. Once the card is downloaded into the mobile phone, it can be replayed as many times as required by the user until he/she learns the word or idiom. The cost varies between Rs 5 and Rs 50, depending upon the package. As of now, the service can be accessed by all GPRS-enabled phones. According to Avon Mobility Solutions, Enrich Your English is the first Indian product to have been nominated for the ELTons (English Language Teaching Innovations) Award 2009 by British Council UK, sponsored by Cambridge ESOL. The ELTons, now in the seventh year, are offered to outstanding new language learning products and services, which use innovative ideas to help learners achieve their goals.
