The Hindu Business Line : Detecting modem

I have a Compaq Presario 7500 series system. I lost the recovery disk, so I used Windows 98 disk. Now my system says it cannot find the modem. Please suggest a solution.

The driver for your modem is available at the HP site itself. Please go to hp.com and in the search, type your model `Compaq Presario 7500' and search. A list of all Compaq Presario models will appear. Please click on the `Compaq Presario 7500' link. In the next page, click on the `Software & driver downloads' link. In the next page, click on the Operating system you have, in your case, click on the Window 98 link. A list of all available drivers and software related to your model and OS will be listed. Scroll down to the Modem Driver and download Presario Conexant HCF Modem Drivers and install it, using this procedure to download any driver you need for any product of HP. There is one other way when you do not have access to any resource other than your PC but want to have your modem up and running. You can install the modem as a `Standard Modem.' In the modem installation wizard, please select `I will choose the driver to install' and unselect `Show compatible hardware' check box. A list of all drivers will be listed. Please select (Standard Modem Types) on the left list and `Standard 33600 bps Modem' in the right. You will have to clear the `Wait for dial tone' check box in the modem properties in case you get a `Cannot detect dial tone' error.
