Computer Usage Modem trouble
I have installed "HSP56 MR" internal modem manufactured by PCtel on my computer (Pentium 3, 833MHz machine, browser is IE 5.5). For the past one year it has been working well. However, in the last two months, I have been getting disconnected from the Internet often. For the past one month, I have not been able to connect to my vsnl.net connection at all. I tried connecting to the Internet using the same account on my friend's computer and it connected without any problem. I have used the connection settings recommended by VSNL. I viewed the log file of the modem. I noticed that it receives the message "No Carrier" from the server before it gets disconnected. Please suggest a solution. Arunkumar Subramanian The following are possible reasons for a `No Carrier' error:
1. The modem is not connected with a working phone line.
In your case, it is most probably the first one. Please check the telephone cable plugged into your modem for clear and disturbance-free dial tone. You can check this by connecting a normal phone and trying out making a call. It may be possible the wire is cut somewhere, or the connector is damaged. Please check.
