Slow start

I am using a P-3 500 system with Windows 98. My computer takes a very long time to start. There are many icons on my toolbar. My first doubt is — is there a way to disable these icons from loading every time on startup? Secondly, when I shut down my computer, I get a message that says "Windows98 is shutting down" and the screen becomes blank after that. The message, "it is now safe to turn off your computer," does not appear. How do I ensure that this message appears? Please suggest a solution.

You can remove unnecessary icons from the toolbar by right clicking and delete option. There may be many services running on your system. That is why the system is slow. You can set them to manual mode and start them when you need them. For the shutdown problem, please search your system root folder for the logo*.sys files. If you don't get any file, then the files are deleted from the system. That is why you are not getting the last screen "it is now safe to turn off your computer."
