Blower Fan - Slot type

Your computer works its guts out for you, all right. But the heat it generates is probably an area of concern for you. If it is, then you might consider external coolers. Coolers are pieces of equipment that you fit in, in addition to the hardware that comes when you buy your PC, and which help your system cool faster. This takes the load off fans that come with the hardware.

Mantra Engineering, a Coimbatore-based company, has recently brought out cooling fans for PCs and servers. This comes in two forms: a blower fan and a hard disk wave fan.

"While the computer has cooling fans for the processor and power supplies, other components such as the hard disk, video card, memory and chipset components, which generate a lot of heat, have no such cooling facility. That's why you need these extra coolers," says a release from the company.

The blower fan continuously sucks the hot air inside the chassis and blows it out.

The wave fan sits on top of the hard drive and removes heat from the surface of the drive.

The release adds these following interesting points:

  • Thermal energy that IT components generate is probably enough to fry an egg.

  • Electronic component suppliers estimate that for every rise of 10 degree Celsius in junction temperature, the device failure rate doubles.

Given that there are between 4 and 10 million transistors on a microprocessor and other chipsets, this is significant.

  • A hard disk's life is reduced by nearly 35 per cent if it is continuously running at 34 degree Celsius (source: www.seagate.com/info) .
