Nov. 2: FMC approves Financial Technologies (India) Ltd proposal to bring down its holding in Multi Commodity Exchange of India to 38 per cent. First power trading exchange launched The Supreme Court asks GEAC (Genetic Engineering Approval Committee) to respond to the contempt plea moved by Ms Aruna Rodrigues and others on the permission given to large-scale trials for GM crops Nov. 5: Farmers begin selling sugarcane below State advised prices, mainly in States such as Uttar Pradesh, with sugar prices hitting a low of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,100 a tonne. Nov. 7: The Reserve Bank of India constitutes an Internal Working Group under the Chairmanship of Mr V.S. Das, Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India, in order to examine the recommendations of the Radhakrishna Expert Group on Agricultural Indebtedness. Nov. 9: Temptation Foods Ltd, an exporter of processed fruits and vegetables, acquires the entire business of Everfresh from Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd for an undisclosed amount. Nov. 13: The Union Agriculture and Food Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, defends the floating of a fresh wheat import tender on Government account.
Nov. 15: The Centre announces an additional bonus of Rs 50 per quintal for paddy to be procured by Government agencies in the current 2007-08 marketing season (Oct.-Sept.). Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh get a partial breather with the Allahabad High Court directing them to pay cane farmers an interim price of Rs 110 per quintal for the current crushing season (Oct.-Sept.). Nov. 19: MMTC’s tender for import of up to 3.5 lakh tonnes of wheat on behalf of the Centre attracts bids from eight suppliers who have offered an aggregate quantity of 10.60 lt at prices ranging from $397.03 to $487.95 a tonne, cost & freight (c&f). Nov. 23: Cargill and Glencore, two of the eight bidders, bag the latest MMTC wheat tender for purchase of 3.5 lakh tonnes. Tea Board submits to the European Commission an application for registration of Darjeeling tea as GI (Geographical Indications) under ECR 510 in the European Commission member countries. Nov. 30: The Rubber Board draws up a comprehensive programme to ensure the participation of small growers in the marketing sector.
