I recently bought a Seagate 40GB HDD but my computer does not seem to accept it. Is there any hard disk problem or mother board problem? My old HDD is Seagate 4.3 GB. Please tell me how to install the new HDD. Here are some details about my system:

Please make sure that you have correct jumper settings in your hard disk. It should be set for the master jumper setting, otherwise it won't be detected by the system. For the various jumper settings, you can see the front portion of the hard disk or consult the manual of the hard disk as jumper settings vary from one manufacturer to other.
Also, go to the BIOS setup of your system and enable checking for the primary master, secondary master, primary slave and secondary slave. If these are enabled, after booting, the system will show you a list of all these devices being detected or not based on the jumper settings (typically these devices are hard disks and CD-ROM). Another workaround for checking the new hard disk is to make it the slave (primary or secondary) while keeping your existing hard disk as primary master.
