U.R. Rao at helm of Prasar Bharati

NEW DELHI, Oct. 10

THE Government on Wednesday appointed Prof U.R.Rao as Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Corporation.

It also appointed Lt Gen. M.A. Zaki (Retd.), Prof. Vidya Nivas Mishra and Mr S. Kasipandian as part-time members of the board, according to an official statement here.

These appointments were made on the recommendation of the selection committee headed by the Vice-President of India.

The post of the Chairman had fallen vacant due to the death of Mr Nikhil Chakraborty. Prof Rao, who is already serving as a part-time member, will head Prasar Bharati as Chairman till November 22, 2003.

This is for the remaining term for which appointment of the Chairman was made in 1997.
