More input subsidy better than higher MSP: Jakhar
FORMER agriculture minister, Dr Balram Jakhar, feels that the Government should shift its focus towards increased provision of input subsidies to farmers rather than resort to hike in the minimum support prices (MSP) of crops year after year.

Desi cotton may revive coastal farm economy
COTTON researchers are optimistic about boosting the economy of coastal agriculture by strengthening the cultivation of desi hybrid cotton in coastal saline tracts. Researchers say that there is immediate scope for raising the herbaceum cotton and desi h ybrids in an estimated 5 lakh hectares (particularly in the coastal tracts) in peninsular India.

TN plans breeding park for ornamental fish
A Rs 20-crore infrastructure park for breeding and culturing of aquatic plants and ornamental fish is planned to be set up at Chembarampakkam tank area near the Chennai-Bangalore highway on the western outskirts of Chennai.

Finolex drip irrigation system for sugar mills
THE Pune-based Finolex Plastro Plasson ltd (FPPL), which provides total water management solutions to farmers and the agro-industry, has been approached by the Uttar Pradesh Sugar Federation to install its drip irrigation system for three of its mills.

S.Indian tea exports dip
EXPORTS of tea from South India during January-June declined by 7 million kg (mkg) to 46 mkg from 53 mkg during the same period last year.
