PM calls for `affirmative action' under WTO regime
THE Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, today said that India was prepared to ``engage constructively with an open mind'' with developed countries on all trade related issues even as he reiterated the country's stance on the completion of the ``inco mplete agenda'' of the Uruguay Round before embarking on any new round of multilateral trade negotiations.

FICCI calls for elimination of multiple tax after VAT
THE Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has welcomed the Government proposal to introduce Value Added Tax (VAT) effective from April 1, 2002, as a step towards rationalising the present system of sales tax in all States. The un derlying objective of VAT is to have a simple, transparent and uniform tax system.
