Provisional duty on imports of 2-MNI from China

NEW DELHI, July 23

THE Finance Ministry has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of 2-Methyl (5) Nitro Imidazole, commonly known as 2-MNI, from China.

Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in its preliminary findings, the Revenue Department has imposed an anti-dumping duty equivalent to the difference between $4.79 per kg and the ``landed value'' of such imported 2-MNI per kg.

2-MNI is used as a drug intermediate for the production of metronidazole, tinidazole, dimetridazole. The petition seeking anti-dumping investigations on 2-MNI from China was filed by Aarti Drugs Ltd and Unichem Laboratories.

The Finance Ministry has also imposed provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of ferro silicon from Ukraine.

Acting on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in its preliminary findings, the Revenue Department has imposed an anti-dumping duty equivalent to the difference between $761 per tonne and the ``landed value'' of such imported ferro silicon per tonne.

Ferro silicon is an alloy of silicon and iron containing calcium, aluminium, carbon as impurities. It is primarily used as a deoxidiser in the production of steel and alloy steels.
