Seshasayee Paper Chairman dead

CHENNAI: Mr S. Viswanathan, Chairman, Seshasayee Paper and Boards Ltd died on Sunday following a brief illness. He was 86. He is survived by his wife.

He joined the Seshasayee group in 1957 and was responsible for setting up Seshasayee Industries Ltd, Simco Meters Ltd and SPBL. He also promoted Ponni Sugars and Chemicals Ltd, SPB Projects and Consultancy Ltd, Esvin Advanced Technologies Ltd, High Energ y Batteries Ltd and Neyveli Ceramics Ltd.

Mr Viswanathan was closely associated with the setting up of the bagasse-based Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL). He was a strong proponent of the use of unconventional raw materials to manufacture paper. He pioneered the use of paper mill efflu ent in irrigation to cultivate dry lands. -- Our Bureau
