CTCs firm at Kochi sale

KOCHI, July 22
A GOOD general demand resulted the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.
Of the quantity of 7,30,000 kg on offer in the dust category, the CTC market was generally firm to dearer by Rs 2-4 and occasionally more. Orthodox highgrowns and mediums were also higher.
The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 57 and Rs 78, medium CTC realised Rs 48-55 and poorer type were quoted Rs 30-37. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 65-105, while medium BOPD realised Rs 31-38. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 22-28.
The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,55,000 kg. Orthodox medium and highgrown good quality brokens were steady to sometimes dearer, while others tended to ease. Fannings barely remained steady and CTCs were g
enerally dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. Useful demand witnessed from CIS and other exporters on orthodox grades. CTCs witnessed good demand from exporters as well as upcountry buyers.
The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 55 and Rs 64, medium orthodox realised Rs 42-61 and plain orthodox was quoted at Rs 34. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 49-54 and medium CTC leaf realised Rs 40-44.
In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD-CL fetched the best prices of Rs 105 followed by Nonsuch BOPD by Rs 81. In the leaf varieties, Burnside OP realised the best prices of Rs 88 followed by Welbeck OP by Rs 81.50.
