Govindarajan made industrial policy Secy

NEW DELHI, July 21

IN a minor reshuffle of secretary-level portfolios, the Government has appointed Mr V. Govindarajan as the new Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. He will replace Mr Piyush Mankad who is with the Asian Development Bank now.

A 1967 batch Andhra cadre IAS officer, Mr Govindarajan was hitherto Secretary, Department of Company Affairs (DCA). Mr V.K. Dhall, a 1966 batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, will now be the new DCA Secretary. The appointments were cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC).

Mr S.K. Purkayastha, a 1969 batch officer will take charge as Additional Secretary in the Banking Division in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA). The post of Secretary (Banking) was downgraded from August 1 this year, after the retirement of Mr Dev i Dayal. Mr Purkayastha was holding the charge of Additional Secretary in the Department of Agricultural and Cooperation.

Mr B.K. Chaturvedi, hitherto Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development, has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of Elementary Education and Literacy.

Mr R.V.V. Ayyar has been named the new Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development. Mr Ayyar was hitherto holding charge of Department of Culture which will now be headed by Mr N. Gopalswami, Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Commis sion.

Mr P.C. Sen will replace Mr Gopalswami as the Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Commission. Mr A.K. Goswami has been appointed as the Director-General of the National Productivity Council.
