Ministry to hold talks on anti-dumping

K.R. Srivats

NEW DELHI, July 7

THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry is to hold parleys with the representatives of various industry associations to assess the impact of anti-dumping duties on the domestic as well as the concerned user industry.

``Both the domestic and user industry have been invited for discussions with the Designated Authority. We have been asked to give inputs in terms of the status of the domestic industry before the imposition of the duty and how it has affected the market situation of the product,'' industry sources said.

Inputs in terms of import quantities, total demand, domestic production, capacity utilisation, realisation of price in the domestic market and profitability had been sought from industry representatives, the sources said.

Meetings between the Designated Authority and the domestic industry are to be held from July 18-22.

The sources said four groups had been created to represent the interests of the 44 products on which final anti-dumping duties were currently applicable.

The Directorate-General of Anti-Dumping & Allied Duties (DGAD) has so far initiated 90 cases for investigations. In 69 cases, the final findings have been recommended and the remaining cases are under investigation in different stages.

The DGAD, in June this year, wrote to various industry associations seeking information on the products on which anti-dumping investigations had been carried out by it in the past.

It had then decided to take stock of the situation arising from the practice of anti-dumping measures for almost a decade and assess their impact on the domestic industry.
