Cement production down in June

NEW DELHI: Large units in the domestic cement industry have recorded an output of 8.79 million tonnes (mt) in June. They had recorded a production level of 8.88 mt in May.

According to the provisional figures released by the Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA), cumulative output of the large units in the first quarter of the current fiscal increased by 2.39 per cent to touch 26.08 mt against 25.47 mt in the same period the previous year.

Cement production by large units was 8.84 mt in June 2000.

Despatches for June 2001 stood at 8.83 mt against a despatches level of 8.97 mt in the same month the previous year.

Cumulative cement despatches in the first quarter of the current fiscal increased by 2.18 per cent to touch 26.21 mt (25.65 mt). -- Our Bureau
