CHENNAI, May 6
THE Indo-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce was inaugurated in Chennai by Kazakhstan's Ambassador to India, Mr Askar Shakirov.
Addressing the inaugural function, Mr Shakirov said that the $63-million bilateral trade with India could be developed several fold. For India, the areas of potential trade with Kazakhstan include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food, machinery and constru
ction.
In the last few years the country has gone through the process of establishing itself as a new independent state. The basic indicators of growth are showing an up-trend in all the sectors, he said.
The President of the Indo-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce, Mr R.P. Khemka, said that this chamber was among the earliest of the CIS countries to commence operations in India. A delegation of entrepreneurs would soon visit Kazakhstan to identify areas of i
nvestment and trade, he said.
According to a press note, Kazakhstan is rich in mineral resources including oil, natural gas and coal. Rare minerals like chromium, vanadium, bismuth and zinc are also available. The Government is committed to free trade, privatisation and foreign inves
tment.
