Sinha scraps 5 pc customs duty on ships import
IT'S celebration time for the beleaguered domestic shipping industry. The storm clouds that had gathered in the wake of the Budget proposal to impose a customs duty of 5 per cent on import of ships was dropped by the Finance Minister, Mr Yaswant Sinha, o n Wednesday in the face of a spirited opposition from the shipping companies.



No takers for Gloria Kopp
DESPITE coming up for auction thrice by the Chennai Customs, there seems to be no takers for Gloria Kopp, alias Kobe Queen I, also called the `phantom ship'. The vessel has been docked inside the Chennai port since early 2000.
