Low-duty soyaoil import can hurt growers
IN its wisdom, on February 28, the Government effected a steep increase in the customs duty on various oils with the ostensible purpose of supporting oilseed growers. More categories of oils and more slabs of duty have been created; and they call it rati onalisation of duty structure. However, more than seven weeks since the duty hike, there has been no perceptible increase in the farm-gate prices of oilseeds.

Irked by Collector's `intemeperate' remarks on FCI nexus -- East Godavari rice millers down shutters
THE rabi rice crisis in Andhra Pradesh reached a flashpoint on Sunday with the rice millers in East Godavari, the district with the largest number of trading rice mills in the State (550), deciding to down shutters in protest against ``the intemperate re marks of the district collector on the issue at a review meeting at Amalapuram on Friday''.

Cashew prices turn easy
RAW cashew and kernel prices eased last week. W320 was traded at around $1.85 per pound free-on-board for July-December period and $1.80-1.82 for nearby positions. Some sales for nearbys at $1.73-1.75 by small and medium packers were also reported. Limit ed business took place for W240 in the range of $2.20-2.25, according to Mr Pankaj Sampat of Samsons Trading Company.

New machine for drying cardamom
KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Cardamom Processing and Marketing Company (KCPMC) has designed and developed a new machine for drying cardamom with electricity as its fuel. The machine is named `GreenKa'. The new machine which runs on electricity c an also work with a generator.
