Despite opening paddy purchase centres in AP -- FCI makes no additional rice purchases
Despite the opening of direct paddy purchase centres by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Andhra Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation, the crisis in the Andhra Pradesh rice market continues as these centres are reported to be making no rice purchases.

FAO says world cereal prices may firm up
THE first forecast of world cereal output in 2001 is 1,889 million tonnes, almost 2 per cent above last year, according to `Food Outlook' report published by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Global Green exports 10,000 t gherkins
BANGALORE: THE Bangalore-based firm, Global Green Company, has exported 10,000 tonnes of gherkins during 2000-01. This forms one-fifth of total gherkin exports from the country valued at Rs 140 crore annually, according to a company release here.

Under-invoicing of edible oil imports again
WITH such high rates of customs duty on edible oil imports, it had to happen. Serious apprehensions of under-invoicing of refined palmolein imports by a section of the trade have surfaced once again, creating an unseemly stand-off among players. Complain ts of invoice manipulation have reportedly been lodged with authorities concerned who are said to be preparing to investigate.
