VISAKHAPATNAM, April 9

THE State-owned, Dredging Corporation of India (DCI), has posted a turnover of Rs 421 crore for the 2000-01 financial year.

According to a DCI spokesman, this represents an increase of 27 per cent when compared to the previous year's turnover of Rs. 331 crore.

``The operational income during the just-ended fiscal has been Rs 405 crore, as against Rs 293 crore during 1999-2000, up by 38 per cent,'' he said.

Facing the threat from foreign dredging companies after the dredging sector was opened up, the DCI has initiated steps to hasten its acquisition programme.

Having received a new trailer suction hopper dredger of 7,400 cub mts capacity last month, the Indian dredging major is expecting delivery of another dredger of similar make and capacity in July this year.
