Cotton lint prices firm

COIMBATORE, April 9

COTTON lint prices displayed a steady trend during the last fortnight of the last fiscal.

In Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, lint prices remained firm, though the mandis reported negligible arrivals. Bengal Desi ruled between Rs 1,020 and Rs 1,240 per maund spot and the J-34 saw ginned was quoted at Rs 1,870-1,950 per maund spot. In the North zone, arrivals were reported to have crossed 30 lakh bales.

Cotton lint prices displayed a mixed trend in Gujarat. V-797 ruled at Rs 13,600-13,800 per candy spot, while Shankar-6 variety was quoted at Rs 22,100 per candy spot.

Lint prices did not change in Madhya Pradesh. Few transactions took place. H-4 ruled at Rs 20,300 per candy spot.

In Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, lint prices displayed a steady trend. Mill demand continued for quality lots of MCU-5, which was quoted at Rs 24,800-25,100 per candy spot. Few lots of the DCH-32 variety changed hands in Tamil Nadu.

A mixed trend prevailed in Karnataka. Though arrivals of Jayadhar variety increased, the demand from the mill segment was for quality lots of DCH-32.
