DESPITE the rehabilitation efforts, there has been an overall increase of 38 per cent in the total number of sick or weak units, according to the Economic Survey 2000-2001. As per the information complied by the RBI from scheduled commercial banks, as on March 31, 1999, there were 3,09,013 sick units, consisting of 2,792 units in the non-SSI sector and 3,06,221 in the SSI sector.
