Good demand for dusts at Kochi tea sale

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though a good general demand prevailed in the dust varieties, the demand was comparatively low in the leaf sale.

Of the quantity of 12,05,000 kg on offer in the dust category, the market for CTCs were generally lower by Rs 3-6. Highpriced CTCs were lower by Rs 10, whereas orthodox highgrown dust were lower by Rs 5-7. Mediums were also lower by Rs 2-3. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 42 and Rs 65, medium CTC realised Rs 35-40 and poorer type were quoted Rs 27-32. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 84 and Rs 86, while medium BOPD realised Rs 27-31. Secondaries and residuals were quoted Rs 20 -23 and Rs 15-17, respectively.

There was only a fair general demand in the leaf sale and the quantity on offer was 6,60,000 kg. Orthodox bolder brokens remained barely steady to easier. Smaller brokens were lower by Rs 2-3 and poorer types tended to ease. Orthodox fannings witnessed l ess demand with many withdrawals, while CTCs were generally lower by Rs 2-4.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 58 and Rs 70, medium orthodox realised Rs 50-66 and plain orthodox were quoted Rs 36-42. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 42 and Rs 45 and medium CTCs realised Rs 33-40.

In the dust category both Nonsuch BOPD and Kodanad BOPD-CL fetched the best price of Rs 85 each followed by Mayura RD at Rs 80. In the leaf varieties, Havukal BOPF realised the best prices of Rs 93.50 followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 85.
