Clarification on SSI sector investment limit

NEW DELHI, March 24

THE Government has clarified that SSI/ancillary units which have obtained provisional registration on the basis of its notification of December 10, 1997 and have taken concrete steps for implementing the project such as preparation of project reports, sa nction of loans, purchase of land, among others before December 24, 1999 will continue to enjoy small-scale industry status as long as the investment in plant and machinery does not exceed Rs. 3 crores.

In a statement, the Government has said this is notwithstanding the revised investment limit of Rs. 1 crore notified on December 24, 1999.
