Nominated to ICSI Council

NEW DELHI, March 24

THE Department of Company Affairs (DCA) has issued orders under clause (b) of sub-section (2) of Section 9 of the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, nominating Mr. A. Ramaswamy, Joint Secretary, DCA, to the Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) with immediate effect.

Mr. Ramaswamy has also been nominated to the Disciplinary Committee of the Council. He replaces Mr. G.P. Prabhu, Joint Secretary, DCA, according to an official release.

The Council is constituted every three years. It has a total of 16 members including the President. Of the total, 12 members are elected and four nominated by the Government. The present Council is the seventh Council for the term 1998-2000, ending Decem ber 31, 2000.

ICSI, set up under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, is under the administrative control of the DCA. Every company, which has a paid-up capital of Rs. 25 lakhs and above, is required to have a company secretary on its roll under the Companies Act, 1956.
