BPCL tie-up for chair on chemical engg

MUMBAI, March 24

BHARAT Petroleum Corporation Ltd has tied up with the University Department of Chemical Technology, University of Mumbai, for the institution of a Chair for chemical engineering.

Part of BPCL's silver jubilee celebrations, the endowment involves appointment of a `Bharat Petroleum professor in chemical engineering', with special emphasis on environmental studies, according to a press release.

Research work could be conducted on environment related issues such as bio de-sulphurisation of hydrocarbon fuels, treatment of effluent chemicals and work on degradable base fuels.

The country's second largest petroleum company has been awarded Level 7 under the international safety rating system and judged runner-up under the Golden Peacock Environmental Management Award Scheme 1999.

Through the endowment, the company will provide necessary opportunity for advanced research on environment, the release said.
