Easier norms may see $1-2 b overseas listings
A HOST of Indian infotech companies would immediately be in a position to issue American depository receipts (ADRs) and global depository receipts (GDRs) to the tune of $1-2 billion per annum for business acquisitions overseas, following the Finance Mini stry's decision on Thursday to liberalise norms for acquisitions abroad.

Enron subsidiary to pick up 49 pc in Ispat Energy
ENRON Energy Marketing Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enron Corporation, has agreed to pick up 49 per cent stake in Ispat Energy Ltd.

Finance Ministry yes to free trade area
THE Finance Ministry has accepted in principle the much- talked about free trade area (FTA) concept to be incorporated into the forthcoming Export-Import policy. The will give the requisite thrust to exclusive export enclaves, though the model might be a hybrid and a not totally Chinese one.

SSI's GDR priced $14.4 -- Oversubscribed 16 times
SSI Ltd has issued Global Depository Receipts (GDRs) raising $87 millions excluding a green shoe option of $13 millions. The issue has been priced at $ 14.4 per GDR which translates into a premium of 7.8 per cent to the closing price on March 23 on the B ombay Stock Exchange.

Direct tax mop-up close to Rs 10,000 cr
THE Finance Ministry has mopped up close to Rs. 10,000 crores from income and corporation tax _ a substantial amount coming as advance tax collections _ up to March 22, official sources said.
