Politics Governor defers talks to give TC time to suspend stir KOLKATA: The West Bengal Governor, Mr Gopal Krishna Gandhi has deferred the much awaited talks on Singur till 4:00 pm to give time to Trinamool Congress (TC) to suspend its agitation and reopen the Durgapur Expressway, Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhatta charjee said on Friday. “The Governor has deferred the dialogue. He hopes that the agitation will be suspended and the expressway will be reopened to traffic by that time,” Mr Bhattacharjee said here. When it was pointed out that the Governor had stated that the Government had sought time, Mr Bhattacharjee said, Mr Gandhi himself had appealed to TC to suspend the agitation and reopen the expressway. “We support the Governor's decision. The opposition should respond to his request so that the talks can be held in a peaceful atmosphere,” the Chief Minister said. Asked whether suspension of dharna and reopening of the expressway were preconditions for talks, he evaded a reply saying that State government official will go to Raj Bhavan at 4:00 pm with all papers to take part in the talks. At Singur, TC chief Ms Mamata Banerjee said the process to reopen the expressway was on. She also said that no political speech will be made from the dharna platform till the talks are over. - PTI
