AP govt prepares special action plan for SCs

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government has drawn up a comprehensive action plan for the benefit of Scheduled Castes, spending Rs 337.22 crore covering as many as 1,48,405 SC people during 2008-09.

Under the program, the beneficiaries would be helped to develop lands, excavate bore-wells, energize pump-sets, and take up horticulture, dairying and sheep rearing and provided self employment, announced the Chief Minister Mr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy here on Saturday while interacting with a group of leaders from SC community.

The program would be implemented by the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Castes Cooperative Finance Corporation (APSCCFC). Mr Reddy said the government would be extending the 'Pavala Vaddi' (three per cent interest) scheme to all beneficiaries of the APSCCFC who repay loans to commercial banks regularly and promptly.

This would cost the government Rs 14 crore during the current financial year, he added. - PTI
