Trade & Labour Unions Normalcy back at New Mangalore Our Bureau Mangalore, May 8 Cargo-handling workers at the New Mangalore port resumed normal work on Thursday morning after a prolonged late evening meeting on Wednesday. The cargo-handling workers, who adopted go-slow attitude in their operations since May 2, were seeking payment of money to them in cash rather than in cheque. Mr M. Shekar Pujari, President of the Association of New Mangalore Port Stevedores, told Business Line that the labourers agreed to sign on the cash vouchers issued by the respective stevedores. He said that members of stevedores met the labourers in the presence of Mr S. Gopalakrishna, Traffic Manager of the port, on Wednesday evening. Though the workers agreed to start normal work in the third shift on Wednesday, they resumed normal work from Thursday morning. He thanked the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Traffic Manager of the New Mangalore Port Trust and all the other officials concerned for their role in resolving the issue.
