New Delhi, May 3 Air India may soon be getting tips from private airlines on how to function more efficiently.

A Parliamentary committee has recommended that the Government may commission a study on the functioning of private airlines including the financial freedom they enjoy, efficiency and thrust on customer service.

The Committee, which submitted its report earlier this week, has suggested that the findings may be used for improving National Airline Company of India Ltd, the merged entity of Air India and Indian.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture’s report on ‘Demands for grants of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’ has also said that it sees no logic behind the Government decision of handing over the Nagpur airport to a joint venture company “virtually free of cost”.

It has further recommended a proper valuation of the Nagpur airport’s assets, including the land, be done and brought into the company’s books so that the information is in public domain.

Financial freedom

It has also recommended that Airports Authority of India be given necessary financial freedom in selecting and executing aviation infrastructure projects.

The Committee has called for the completion of modernisation of Chennai and Kolkata airports on a priority basis so as to ease the traffic over Delhi and Mumbai.
