Fair demand at Coimbatore tea auctions

Coimbatore, April 23 The total offerings of tea at the weekly auction held here last Friday amounted to 5.58 lakh kg, with leaf grades accounting for 1.94 lakh kg and dust 3.64 lakh kg. Limited quantity of orthodox leaf grades on offer met with fair demand.

The well made Nilgiri high growns ruled steady to dearer, while others remained irregular around last following quality. Internal demand was limited.

Fannings ruled firm to dearer, the medium/plainer bolder grades and brokens remained barely steady and the smaller brokens and fannings quoted dearer by Re 1. Popular and good liquoring CTC dust teas remained steady. Exporters were active and HUL selective. The orthodox high grown ranged at Rs 65 – 79, medium CTC in the Rs 49 – 58 range and good CTC dust moved in the Rs 63 – 67 level.
