AI employees seek basic amenities at Rajiv Gandhi airport

Hyderabad, April 18

About 400 employees of Air India have alleged that they are denied basic amenities such as drinking water, waiting rooms and rest rooms at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).

They staged a dharna at the airport demanding that they be provided with the basic facilities.

“We have waited for three weeks (since the launch of commercial operations at the new airport), but are being forced to work without these amenities,” Mr S.P.D. Sudhakar, Regional Secretary of Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU), told Business Line.

The employees alleged that the management had put the blame on GMR for not providing them enough space for amenities.

“We have decided to raise slogans and sport black badges in protest against the management’s attitude. If they don’t accede to our demands, we will stop going to the airport,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the airport operator claimed that it had extended all support and facilities to employees of various airlines, including Air India that ensured seamless integration and shift of operations to the new location.

“We are in no way concerned with the dharna organised. We promise that we will extend cooperation and provide some more facilities, if need be,” a GMR spokesperson said here in a statement.
