Boxes under scanner at Karachi

Pakistan’s first container scanner has been installed at the Pakistan International Container Terminal at Karachi, according to Shipping Gazette quoting Pakistan’s News International. The report claims that it is the only container terminal in the country to have a container scanner that complies with the US Government norms. The installation of the scanner, which is also designed to detect contraband and explosives, is to facilitate trade flows by reducing the time taken to check the contents of a box. Another push to improve cargo clearance efficiency and to reduce the dwell time of cargo at ports comes with the introduction of the Pakistan Automated Customs Clearance System by Customs authorities to facilitate the e-clearance of cargo, the report adds.
