Telecommunications Cell-to-cell STD calls at 50 paise Our Bureau
MUMBAI, May 29 ORANGE, the private cellular service from Hutch in Mumbai circle, has announced a new 100-minute cell-to-cell offer to some of its talk plan customers at 50 paise per minute for a fee of Rs 50. This offer is on the Talk 599 plan. Free cell-to-cell STD minutes are already bundled for users on the Talk 999 and Talk 1699 plans, who get 50 and 200 minutes, respectively per month. On the Talk 599 plan, customers get free incoming calls, an outgoing rate of 50 paise per minute to cellular phones and Re 1 per minute to all other phones. Mr Harit Nagpal, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, said customers on the above-mentioned talk plans made the most number of STD calls to other cellular users. "Our bundling of free cell-to-cell STD minutes delivers great value to these users." Our Kolkata Bureau reports: Mobile-to-mobile STD rates for post-paid customers of AirTel will now cost 50 paise per minute. This rate, however, will be applicable to post-paid customers under the AirTel Total Freedom, 599, 999 and 1,699 plans. Stating this during an interface with presspersons here on Thursday, Mr Manoj Kohli, President (Mobility Leaders) of Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, said customers wanting to subscribe to the 50 paise per minute STD plan would have to pay a monthly charge of Rs 50. In return, they would be entitled to 100 minutes of mobile-to-mobile STD calls. Mr Kohli announced a new SMS rate of 60 paise per message for both post-paid and pre-paid customers of AirTel. On a monthly payment of Rs 49, customers can send 80 messages at no additional cost. All SMS beyond this would be charged at 60 paise per message. The company also introduced a handset offer in association with Nokia. For an effective price of Rs 3,315, customers can opt for a Nokia 3315 and get an AirTel connection. According to Mr Kohli, AirTel has firmed up plans to invest Rs 75 crore within the next six months for augmentation of the network in Kolkata. The number of cell sites would go up from around 200 at present to 275.
