Population control

This is with reference to "Controlling demography" (Business Line, April 10). Though the Parliament is empowered to prescribe additional qualifications for the MPs, it has failed to do so till day.

This is so because most of the MPs are narrow-minded and selfish. Bills which favour them get passed unanimously whereas those that affect their interests are defeated.

The MPs unanimously voted for their pension. Will they show the same spirit in passing Bills, such as the 79th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
