Refrigerated vans for Rlys

NEW DELHI, April 9

THE Railways has introduced refrigerated vans on mail/express trains for quicker movement of perishable commodities.

One compartment of refrigerated van can carry 12 tonnes of perishable commodities such as vegetables, flowers, butter, milk and eggs at a temperature of four degree Celsius. The second compartment is a deep freezer capable of maintaining a temperature of 20 degree Celsius with a capacity to carry five tonnes of commodities such as ice-creams and frozen meat, an official statement said here on Tuesday.

The refrigerated vans have been introduced on the Southern Railway and will be extended to other zonal railways shortly.
